About Us
Company History
Over thirty-five years clinical experience working within challenging behaviour services and the training of physical interventions.
Specialist Services Training Solutions Ltd.’s training in; ‘The Prevention and Therapeutic Management of Challenging Behaviour which can culminate in Violence and Aggression’ is a training system developed in the 1990’s. This original method of training was developed and produced by the director of the company and his colleagues, who were employed by Cardiff and the Vale NHS Trust. The training system encompassed non-aversive, least restrictive physical intervention workshops and was supported by a Training manual entitled ‘Preventing and Responding to Aggressive Behaviour’ and received a National Training award in 1997. Specialist Services Training Solutions Ltd has further developed the aforementioned training system in line with best practice and evidenced based research. The emphasis of our training is the continued promotion of Positive Behavioural Support, ensuring positive outcomes for individuals with behaviours that challenge, and the reduction of challenging behaviour / violence & aggression; allied to the protection of staff supporting them.
Our Organisation is certified by Bild Association of Certified Training (BILD ACT).
Specialist Team
Our staff have extensive experience in supporting people with challenging behaviours which can culminate in violence & aggression. This experience is in direct support, management, clinical leadership, training and academia, and spans services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism, mental health, acquired brain injury, dementia and education. The team comprises of Behavioural Specialists, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Psychologists, Nurses and Teachers.
Mission Statement
Our aim is to provide high-quality training and consultancy for families and organisations supporting people with complex behavioural challenges / violence & aggression. We aim to deliver person-centred, socially valid, positive behavioural approaches to the prevention and safe management of difficult behaviours. Working in partnership with referring agencies, we strive to improve the quality of life of service users and to reduce the use of restrictive practices.

Specialist Services Training Solutions physical intervention training for both children and adults with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, autistic people and people living with dementia are certified as meeting the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards.
The Launch of the new Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards has been one of the most significant changes to training design, development, and delivery in the last 30 years. In particular, to those training programmes that focus on the prevention and management of distress and behaviours of concern. The standards have been designed to embrace all sectors, with a view to ensure all sectors and staff supporting individuals are coming from the same knowledge values and skill base.
Specialist Services Training Solutions are committed to restraint reduction within all services and continue to pledge their support to the RRN.

Commissioning requirements and inspection frameworks are changing. NHS commissioned services and the Care Quality Commission will require certification of training services from April 2020. CQC will also expect services across health and social care to have certified training. Certification of training against the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards must also be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) as complying with the ISO certification standards to ensure impartiality, credibility and integrity. BILD Association of Certified Training have been granted accreditation by UKAS as meeting the ISO standards for certification. (Customer number 10766).

Specialist Services Training Solutions Ltd are a Certified Organisation. By being certified by Bild Association of Certified Training (ACT), Specialist Services Training Solutions have demonstrated that their training services comply with the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standard. This is a rigorous process that is accredited by UKAS as meeting the ISO standards for certification.
Allied to this the Director John Hadley is referenced and acknowledged in the following BILD publications; Physical Interventions A Policy Framework (1997). Training Carers in Physical Interventions: Research towards evidence-based practice (2001). Ethical Approaches to Physical Interventions: Responding to Challenging Behaviour in People with Intellectual Disabilities (2002). Physical Interventions and the Law (2004). John also consulted on the preparation and development of the first ‘Code of Practice for Trainers in the field of Physical Interventions’ part of the previous BILD Physical Intervention Accreditation Scheme.

Biomechanics is the science concerned with the internal and external forces acting on the human body and the effects produced by these forces; which is fundamental within the use of all physical skills and the use of physical interventions. All Specialist Services Training Solutions staff have studied Biomechanics via NESTA, Biomechanics Specialist Program.
